L. Alexis Lowery PT, DPT, OCS

“I find myself inspired by patients with internal motivation and personal responsibility — they are no longer taking the wait and see approach but rather actively taking responsibility to be a part of their recovery. I treat the person, not the problem, which requires intimate detail of movement, knowledge of injury and skilled intervention”

Alexis Lowery comes to Atlanta PT after working the Atlanta Falcons Physical Therapy Centers where she treated orthopedic conditions for sports specific injuries, common overuse injuries and post surgical rehabilitation. She received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Emory University where she graduated with Highest Honors.

While at Emory, Alexis developed a love for community outreach in physical therapy. Her research at Emory University, which explored physical therapy practice in underserved populations, was selected for presentation at the 84th Annual Georgia Public Health Association Conference in 2013 and subsequently published in the Journal of Allied Health. Alexis’ passion of outreach extends to her patient care as she promotes a lifestyle of wellness with her patients. She helps them transition from injury to recovery with the education of the benefits of physical activity and healthy movement patterns. Alexis believes physical therapy practice is a unique, individualized plan to facilitate recovery, promote body awareness, and encourage wellness. She strives not only to take her patients out of pain, but to help them return to their passions.

Alexis has a special interest in treating the spine and has pursued advanced training in manual osteopathic techniques with a focus on spinal and pelvic girdle dysfunctions. She attributes spinal movement, impaired motor control, and posture as driving force to predisposition of injury. Alexis is trained in Selective Functional Movement Assessment, an Orthopedic Section Member of the American Physical Therapy Association and also a member of the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia.

Alexis often spends her weekend cycling on the Silver Comet Trail, playing basketball, touring art galleries, or indulging in the taste of Atlanta. Alexis is a self-proclaimed foodie that loves cooking and exploring the local treats of the city.
