Atlanta PT offers specialized physical therapy treatment for issues related to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) can develop for a variety of reasons, which is why our therapists take a holistic approach to treatment. TMJ evaluation often involves examination of: neck/back dysfunctions, myofascial pain, headaches, posture, breathing, and stress management- including discussion of clenching and grinding, and of course assessment of your jaw.
TMD can present with many symptoms affecting daily life, including but not limited to dizziness, achiness, jaw fatigue, clicking/popping, poor breathing, pressure in the head and face, poor sleep, and difficulty eating. TMJ treatment at Atlanta PT offers a conservative approach to restoring proper jaw function through manual therapy and neuromuscular re-education techniques leading to better quality of life for our patients. We work with the patient’s dentist or oral surgeon to improve bite alignment and jaw range of motion to decrease pain and increase function.
